About Windham NH
Originally part of Londonderry NH, and settled in 1719, Windham became an incorporated town in 1741. It holds the distinction of being the second town designated by Governor Benning Wentworth once the New Hampshire-Massachusetts border was determined. The town derives its name from Sir Charles Wyndham, Earl of Egremont and Baron Cockermouth, a Member of Parliament and Secretary of State during the Rockingham government’s efforts to promote reconciliation with the American colonies. Notably, Windham served as the birthplace of Samuel P. Dinsmoor, who held the position of Governor of New Hampshire from 1831 to 1834.
